The Video Poem Marathon in Indigenous and Minoritized Languages 2024Ráth Maoláin was the first poem I wrote in Irish in 2016. Although Irish was my mother tongue English has become my father tongue. I wrote this poem in response to a pencil drawing of me by my husband, the painter, John Philip Murray in 1985 on Rathmullan Beach, County Donegal. The poem was selected on the Irish Longlist of the Frances Browne Poetry Competition in Irish 2021. The English text included with this video is an English version of the poem rather than a direct translation.
